I had been engaging with Nodumo since November 2020, as a partner on the Demographics of African Faculty project. She was such a calm, friendly and hard working person who always had words of wisdom to share. She has surely left us too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and the entire AAU team during this difficult and painful time of loss. May Nodumo's gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace...

Nodumo, you were amazing and an inspiration to work with. You were a beautiful spirit and kind, thank you! It is still difficult to comprehend that you are gone. May you rest in eternal peace and may the Lord comfort your family.

Nodumo was such a warm and supportive professional. I met her in Accra in October 2025 for the first time, and we hugged like we had known each other for ever. Before then, we had met virtually because she was available in the many of her focused webinars. Nodumo was very instrumental in connecting Universities to confront the needs of the time during Covid 19 pandemic. Such an instrumental connection from AAU to the rest of Africa. May her soul Rest in Eternal Peace and her family find comfort during this difficult time. Rose Ruto-Korir- Kenya

I first met Nodumo at a work-related exchange, and from the very beginning, I was struck by her humility and wisdom. She generously shared invaluable advice and insights with me, and in those moments, I felt as though I had found an older sister. Our conversations about navigating careers, friendships, and life were so meaningful that we talked well past dinner, on that first evening. Her passing truly breaks my heart, she had so many more lives to impact. Her light will continue to shine in the lives she touched, and her legacy of kindness and wisdom will never be forgotten.

  • 06/05/2025

Thank you Ms Nodumo for the kindness and love you showed me from the first day we met while I was still at University. You mentored me and instilled in me values that I still carry with me to this day. Because of you my friends and I were able to present our paper at the Grace Hoppers conference in 2013. We later grew and started mentoring other girls in high school thanks to your training and guidance. Even when I was far away you always found time to checkup on me just like a mother. Your words of encouragement kept me going strong. Rest in peace dear Ms Nodumo.

I met Madam Nodumo years ago as a University student. She has a warmth that was unexplainable. She cared, loved and embraced everyone whole heatedly. She treated me like I was her biological daughter yet we had just met. Most of all she was an expiration to succeed. She encouraged and wrote me recommendation letters so that I would excel in technology. Even my family knew her because of the many recommendation letters she wrote for me. Rest with the angels Madam Nodumo 🕊️ you were instrumental in ways we cannot put to words.

Tribute to a Mentor Ms Nodumo Dhlamini Who Changed My Life She asked me my name and what course I was doing. Oh, Software Engineering—the new buzzword at the time. Then she asked, "What do you want to do with that?" My answer now feels so unsure, so unformed. But she didn't dismiss it or laugh it off. Instead, she looked at me and said, "I want to mentor you." At the time, I thought, Why would I need a mentor? I didn't get it. But that "yes" I gave—uncertain and small—turned into something life-changing. The next thing I knew, I was in line for the Grace Hopper Conference with three other girls, all because I accepted a mentorship I never knew I needed. She taught me that there are still genuinely good people in the world—people who show up, believe in you, and never give up. She pushed me forward in ways I didn't understand at the time. It didn't matter how long it had been since we last spoke—she always picked up like no time had passed. Always with grace. Always with that unforgettable smile. I'm angry at myself for not trying harder to see you before you left. I thought there would be more time. Thank you for believing in me when I didn't even know how to believe in myself. Thank you for showing me what it means to show up for others. Till we meet again.

We will miss her! Always kind, attentive and very professional. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

Par son travail au sein du projet euro-africain pour l'assurance qualité et l'harmonisation de l'enseignement supérieur, Nodumo a grandement contribué à renforcer la coopération entre les communautés académiques de nos deux continents. I am saddened to learn about the passing on of NODUMO Dhlamini. I worked with her for many years at Africa University. In fact, I hired her as Africa University's first ICT staff. She was later promoted to Director of ICT. At that time I was the Chairman of the University's Computer Committee. I can't think of a more hard working and professional person; Very productive and always producing her best. When she told me she wanted to join RUFORUM it was me who wrote her recommendation letter. I was saddened to see her leave but I was happy that she would help more Universities on the continent. When NODUMO applied to join AAU again she requested me for a reference letter which I gladly provided. I am saddened by the loss and getting to know about it 10 days after it happened.

What a painful news!!! I'm so sad when I got the news and shocked by its suddenness. I was looking out for Nodumo when I was in Accra recently for the ACE@10 event, and learnt she has traveled and can't unfortunately attend the event. But even while away, she was still contributing through emails. Nodumo is the first person at the AAU that I really familiarized with many years ago. She is such a nice person and a gentle soul. May she rest in peace. Sincere condolences to the entire AAU to the team. She will be dearly missed. Sylvie Nenonene

It is very shattering and shocking to read that Nodumo is no more. Thanks for all you did for AAU and the African Tech Community at large. I was a beneficiary of the AAU sponsorship to the AfNOG Training in 2017 through your efforts and I am immensely and forever grateful. The always-smiling, easy-going, technically-sound and humility-personified Nodumo has gone! Our paths have crossed during my few visits to the AAU Secretariat and I can say that you were a very pleasant and humble person to work with. This will no doubt leave a deep void in our hearts but we take solace in the fact that you are now resting at the bossom of your creator. May God give your family, loved ones, AAU and the global community the fortitude to bear this great loss. Sleep on dear ND! Engr. Tim Ola Akinfenwa Osun State University, Nigeria

Devastating for all of us who knew her. Sincere condolences to Nodumo's family, friends and colleagues. Her calm and expert approach to collaboration made her a pleasure to work with, from Africa University in Zimbabwe to RUMEP in Uganda, and then her magnificent initiative at the AAU drawing together the Moodle Experts for action when COVID struck. Nodumo made a significant contribution to the Edtech sector on our continent - we will continue to persevere in her memory.

I first met Nodumo in Uganda in the 2010s. We were keen to try and start a mobile ag extension app. The app never got off the ground but from that moment I knew I wanted to keep working with Nodumo! In 2017 through the Science Granting Councils Initiative we were able to. During my time working with Nodumo I was always envious of her ability to talk so concisely and clearly when unscripted. She had the ability to make even the most complicated matters seem so straight forward! I have tried for years to emulate her communication abilities but have never managed. She had a gift that was also enhanced by her humility and calmness. She will be missed, but her advice and support will live through us.

Nodumo's life testament challenges us to reflect on our aspirations and the mark that we leave behind on people's lives. My encounter with Nodumo was in 2005 at Africa University, Zimbabwe. My interaction with her was through an AU Inter Peace Marathon where I truly got to know her as a beacon of support, champion, mentor and role model. May her family and the AAU community find comfort in the lord and her impactful work continue to shine!

A Tribute to Nodumo Dhlamini: A Beacon of Wisdom, Faith, and Global Impact To the Presidents of countries that Nodumo served, Leaders of the Association of African Universities, Africa University, and the Esteemed Global Community, It is with a heavy heart yet profound gratitude that I write this tribute to Nodumo Dhlamini, a luminary whose life transformed countless souls, including my own. Nodumo's passing on April 25, 2025, left an indelible void, but her legacy as a visionary leader, advocate for human flourishing, and daughter of God continues to illuminate our path. I first met Nodumo in 2004 at Africa University in Zimbabwe, where, as ICT Director, she radiated brilliance and compassion. As an advisor to my health and wellbeing project, she infused our work with strategic insight and a fierce commitment to equity, teaching me that true progress uplifts the most vulnerable. Over the course of two decades, Nodumo became more than a mentor—she was a pillar of strength, a confidante, and a spiritual guide whose unwavering friendship elevated my professional and personal growth to unimagined heights. During the Easter break of 2025, Nodumo reached out with a serene urgency. In our conversation, her voice carried the calm of divine assurance, uncharacteristic of her demanding role as a global thought leader. We laughed, shared stories of our families, and reflected on our ageing parents. "They're blessed to have such a caring daughter," I told her, and she humbly acknowledged her siblings' support. She spoke of meeting in July—whether in Ghana, Zimbabwe, or beyond—a hopeful plan that stunned me given her stature and unseen burdens. Days later, she revealed a minor surgical procedure, assuring me of her imminent release. That was her final message. My unanswered texts and calls stirred a restless spirit, as if heaven itself whispered of her departure. Her passing confirmed my fears, piercing my heart with grief yet igniting a resolve to honour her counsel. Nodumo's life was a testament to the power of faith, integrity, and relentless service. As a leader at the AAU and Africa University, she stood tall among global giants, advocating for policy reforms that reshaped education, health, and equity across Africa—from Zimbabwe to Eswatini, Ghana to Nigeria, New York to Singapore. Her voice, persistent yet tranquil, broke barriers and built bridges. She combined intellect with spirituality, hard work with humility, achieving what seemed insurmountable. Whether in city gates or boardrooms, Nodumo championed the marginalised, embodying the divine call to care for the least among us. In our final exchange, Nodumo shared profound insights about her life and offered counsel that resonated deeply with my soul. "Max, don't rush your decisions," she urged, her words echoing divine wisdom. She spoke of her son, Pilani, and I vow to watch over him as she did me. Her parting lessons—on life's fragility, the urgency to maximise our God-given talents, and the mandate to serve humanity—have reshaped my purpose. Nodumo's death is not an end but a clarion call: to push our boundaries, to wield our talents for wellbeing and flourishing, and to live with the courage she exemplified. To the global community reading this, let Nodumo's life challenge you. Presidents, let her policy advocacy inspire equitable governance. University leaders, let her educational reforms fuel your innovation. All of us, let her faith and care for the vulnerable guide our actions. Nodumo Dhlamini was a thought leader, a woman of God, and an angel among us. Her journey from Bulawayo to Mutare in Zimbabwe, and then to the world stage, reminds us that one life, lived fully, can change nations. As I await our reunion at the sounding of the trumpet, I carry Nodumo's wisdom forward. Rest in eternal peace, daughter of our Father. Your light shines on, urging us to live boldly, love deeply, and serve selflessly. It was my honour to know you, learn from you, and be forever transformed by you. With eternal gratitude, Maxwell Madzikanga.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. Nodumo, you have run an honourable race. Sincere condolences to the Dhlamini family and the AAU broader family.

In Loving Memory of Her Royal Highness, Queen Nodumo DHLAMINI It is with profound sadness that I attempt to put into words what Nodumo Dhlamini meant to me for over 21 years as a colleague in the industry, our AFCHIX women in technology community, as a friend, mentor, and as the remarkable human being she was. I sent Nodumo a check-in WhatsApp chat on Friday, 25th April, but I didn't see the blue tick. I simply knew I would hear back from my dear friend, only to get the saddest news of her demise later that evening. The news of Nodumos's sudden passing has left a void that feels impossible to fill. Some people enter our lives and fundamentally change them for the better. Queen Nodumo Dhlamini was such a person. Nodumo's WhatsApp "About" setting reads powerfully, "Her Royal Highness, Queen Nodumo". She knew who she was and, most importantly, served from a full cup! Nodumo was our Queen and a top diplomat for the AFCHIX community! In our professional life and mentorship work together, Nodumo approached each day with unmistakable purpose and integrity. Her kindness was exemplified by her willingness to share knowledge and lift everyone around her. She excellently made me feel inspired and AFCHIX feel like a community through sisterhood. I will never forget how Nodumo would sacrifice her time and money to volunteer and support the strengthening of our AFCHIX community. These weren't just gestures, they were expressions of who Queen Nodumo was at the core. Someone who understood that the most important work we do is how we treat one another and help each other grow. Beyond our professional connection, I was fortunate to know Nodumo as a friend. Our laughter and her wisdom could brighten the darkest day. Her advice, always delivered with both compassion and kindness, helped me navigate some of life's most challenging moments. We shared trips, conferences, workshops, lunches, dinners, gatherings, and coffee conversations that I will carry with me always. What I admired most about Nodumo was her ability to show grace when mistakes occurred, find joy in small things, and remain authentic. Nodumo focused on learning and moving forward. This rare quality made everyone around her feel safe to be human, to take risks, and to grow. Her passion for mentoring women in technology in Africa revealed the depth of her character and the values she held dear. Queen Nodumo showed us all how to live with purpose, how to work with dedication, and how to give without reservation. Even in her absence, these lessons remain with us as an AFCHIX community as her lasting gift to us all. As we navigate this profound loss, I find comfort in knowing that Nodumo's influence continues through all of us who were fortunate enough to know who she truly was as a person. The best tribute we can offer is to embody the qualities that made Nodumo so special: her kindness, excellent dedication, generosity, and her genuine care for others. Her kindness was not merely an attempt to be pleasant, it was a deliberate choice she made each day, a strength that transformed our AFCHIX community and our lives. Queen Nodumo showed us the power of compassion and understanding. Though taken from us far too soon, Nodumo's spirit lives on in our memories, in our work as individuals and AFCHIX community, and in how we choose to treat one another. For that legacy, and for the privilege of calling Queen Nodumo both colleague and friend for 21 years, I am eternally grateful. Rest in eternal peace, dear friend and source of great inspiration. You are deeply missed and will be forever lovingly remembered. Dorcas Muthoni Founder, AFCHIX

We met Nodumo at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, during a time when we were volunteering to support Lupane State University in launching its eLearning journey. Even then, Nodumo's passion for leading collaborative efforts shone through. She was a calm soul, a thoughtful leader, and a keen listener who brought people together with grace and purpose. Over the years, we stayed connected and continued to collaborate on several initiatives aimed at advancing digital learning and education across Africa. Most recently, we worked with Nodumo and she played a key role in leading efforts to kick-start a series of eLearning webinars for members of the Association of African Universities. Nodumo's legacy is one of service and empathy. Our condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. May she rest in peace. Patrick Njoroge on behalf of EduTab Africa

Dear Nodumo, Thank you for our profound conversation last week, where you shared such deep spiritual insights. You urged me, "Max, don't rush your decisions," with a wisdom that felt divinely inspired. I could sense you were hearing from God, as I told you—a truly spiritual woman whose faith shone brightly. Unbeknownst to me, you were preparing for your operation, yet you never mentioned it, always putting others first. I was touched when you said, "I want to see you in July, whether in Ghana, Zimbabwe, or anywhere." Your words, despite your busy life and challenges, left me in awe of your strength and vision. You were more than a boss; you were a cherished friend whose sinless, soul-deep connection uplifted me. You were an angel, guiding me to new heights of professional growth. Last week, you hinted at something significant you wanted to share about my life in person. Now, I'll wait to hear it when we meet in Glory. Rest in eternal peace, Nodumo, you'll forever hold a place in my heart. With love and gratitude. Pass my number to the family +447740575131. I would like to pass my condolences and support where required.

I met Nodumo in 2012 when I joined RUFORUM, first as Dean of Agriculture Faculty of the former National University of Rwanda, then in 2014 as a staff member of RUFORUM Secretariat. She taught me how to live in Kampala and work at RUFORUM Secretariat. From that time we became like sisters till the day of her passing💔 Nodumo was a virtuous woman with integrity, professionalism and great compassion for girls from less fortunate backgrounds. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on in times of need, and yes, a great confident with wise pieces of advice that were perfect for the matter being handled. As I reflect on Nodumo's life, I realize that she was one of those unsung heroes who impacted positively the world they interacted with. I can only use these bible verses to discribe her life: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day." ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ Rest in Peace my sister🌹You fought a good fight💔 To her son Phylani, may the good Lord comfort you during this difficult moment. May you draw strength to carry on from the fond memories of the good times you spent with your lovely Mother Nodumo🙏

I had the priviledge of passing through Ms Nodumo's nurturing, compassionate and kind heart. Today I'm saddened that I never really got time to connect more after my undergrad life. One thing for sure is that her impact in my life is something I will always treasure and pass on to those around me. What a wonderful, gracious and always warm lady. Go well my hero! Today, we gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable individual, a dear friend who left an indelible mark on our lives. Though distance and circumstances may have taken you from our side, your memory and spirit remain with us. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity inspired us all. Your presence lit up the room, and your absence leaves a void that can never be filled. We remember your laughter, your smile, and your unwavering optimism. You had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in the memories we shared with you. We cherish the moments we spent together, the conversations we had, and the love we shared. I would like to thank you all for the eulogies for our dear Sdhu! as we used to call her in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼. She was my secondary school friend. Too many memories for me to write. But what all of you wrote resonates with her personality. That's who she WAS, to the end. "Death is our best friend". (Cruel, but true. Read this on the net early this year). Deepest condolences to the Dhlamini family, especially her son, Philani. Rest in peace, dear friend. Your legacy lives on in our hearts, and we'll continue to celebrate your life and love."

Nodumo thank you for being an amazing sister. Your beautiful smile always shone a bright light in the rooms and spaces you entered. Despite your commendable academic accomplishments and busy schedule you always made time to share good life advice- from eating well and exercise, or just a word of encouragement. Always with a beautiful smile. You will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to the Dhlamini Family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sibonokuhle

In Loving Memory of madam Nodumo It is hard to believe you are gone. The memories of you keep surfacing — bright, warm, impossible to forget. This morning, I caught myself looking at the cars, expecting to see your familiar parking spot, half-hoping you would walk in with your smile and bright energy. You had a way of making even the busiest days lighter, often ending our calls with your signature "bye bye" — simple words that now echo so deeply in my heart. Your presence, your laughter, your kindness, your hug— they filled my spaces and my days. Now, those spaces feel a little emptier, and the days a little heavier. I miss you, Nody. We all do. You left a mark that will stay with us forever. Bye bye, Nody — until we meet again.

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." 1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 Ms. Nodumo Dhlamini was undoubtedly a mother figure, a mentor, and a friend to all who encountered her. I am a living testimony of the love and kindness of this remarkable woman. The earth was truly fortunate and privileged to be graced by her presence. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on through the lasting impact she made in the lives of her staff, colleagues, and everyone who crossed her path. Heaven must surely be rejoicing...for God has called home one of His rarest gems. Her legacy will forever endure.

This demise comes with a very big shock to me and my team at the E-Governance and Internet Governance Foundation for Africa (EGIGFA). Through our Universal Acceptance programme in Ghana, we have been collaborating with the AAU since last year. This also includes collaboration with our annual GhanaSIG events. The previous day before her demise, I had a follow up chat with her concerning this year's GhanaSIG event and the UA day. She gave assurance that she will follow up the next day and provide feedback. Madam Nodumo never missed any of our meetings to plan for this year's UA Day. Interestingly, on the 25th April for the first time she couldn't join the meeting. We really missed her presence in the meeting. Few minutes after the meeting, I was called that she passed on earlier that same day. My reaction was, oh how, stop kidding. The caller told me it was not a joke but reality. Pondering over this, Psalm 103:15&16 comes to mind: "As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; And the place thereof shall know it no more." While I had a chat with madam the previous day and was waiting for her feedback the next day, the feedback never came. This expected feedback becomes a forever silence. We will never hear from her again. In my close to 2 years dealing with her, she was full of passion towards what team EGIGFA does, and we had plans for good collaborations with AAU. She was full of smile and always soft spoken. Her demise has left a huge vacuum for all of us who deal with her. I pray God gives her a peaceful, deserving forever sleep! Fare thee well, madam!

We are deeply heartbroken by the passing of Madam Nodumo Dhlamini. Words are hard to find, yet our hearts are full — full of gratitude, full of sorrow, and full of memories of a woman who touched our lives in ways we may never fully be able to express. During our National Service year (2022) at the Association of African Universities (AAU), Madam Nodumo was more than a supervisor or a mentor — she was a mother to us. She never missed a moment to lend an ear to our silent struggles, to offer her wisdom quietly, to lift us up behind the scenes without seeking applause. She created opportunities where none existed, advised us with patience, and mentored us with a steady hand and a kind heart. In the moments we thought no one saw our difficulties, she was already working behind the curtains to ease our burdens. That motherly touch, that secret generosity, that powerful encouragement — it is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. We are all still in deep shock. But in our mourning, we also give thanks to God for the privilege of having crossed paths with such a rare and beautiful soul. As the Bible reminds us: "The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil." — Isaiah 57:1 (NIV) Though her time with us feels painfully short, we trust that God, in His perfect wisdom, has called His beloved daughter home to rest, away from the troubles of this world. As Helen Keller once said: "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Madam Nodumo, you are now a part of us forever. Your light will never go out. Thank you for loving us, guiding us, believing in us, and mothering us when we needed it most. We will honor your memory by living with the same compassion, humility, and quiet strength you so effortlessly embodied. Rest well, beautiful soul. You will always be deeply loved and sorely missed. By NSPs of 2022.

  • 28/04/2025

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message in memory of a truly remarkable woman. Ms Dhlamini was more than just a lecturer to many of us — she was a mentor, a guide, and a friend. She taught us not only about computers, but about life, compassion, and leadership. Even after we left Africa University, she remained a constant presence, reaching out to ask about our lives, our families, and our dreams. When I lost my parents, she took the time to comfort me with her words and her kindness — a gesture I will never forget. She cared deeply, and it showed in everything she did. I regret not checking in on her when our conversations grew silent, but her memory challenges me now to live more thoughtfully, more kindly, just as she did. She was a true leader — in the classroom, in her profession, and in life. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. Her impact will live on in the countless lives she touched.

It was a shocking news for me to learn of the call to glory of my iBMCier 10 coursemate, Madam Nodumo Dhlamini. It was much more so when I even learned that she was in Germany earlier this month for a short course !!! This was (and it pains to now refer to her in the past tense) a woman of uncontroversial candour !! She was a motivator on our course, the type you always want in your corner. As we all mourn her transition unto glory, my prayers is for the family to accept the inevitable with faith in God's unfailing love which arranges all things to our ultimate advantage. Fare thee well, Nodumo Dhlamini. You came, you saw and, with the deluge of people mourning your departure, I am sure you have conquered !! Rest in peace, dear. We shall meet again, on Ressurrection Day. Maj Gen Bola Koleoso (retired) Ph.D. Abuja. Nigeria.

Dr. Nodumo Dhlamini was a dedicated worker of the Association of African Universities who had the commitment to see all Councils brought onboard the Science Granting Councils Initiative. I first met her in 2022 at Munyonyo, Uganda during an SGCI regional meeting. As an observer council, she took interest in our council and promised to follow up on our brief chat during that meeting , with a visit to Sierra Leone. This visit set the pace and paved the way for our council's full participation in the SGCI. She facilitated our participation in the last calls of SGCI 2 RESEARCH CYCLE even though we had no OGMS. She paired our council with UNCST who provided us with platform needed to advertize, receive and review the proposals. Her organization facilitated the the newly developed Online Grant Nanagement System and she recently ( March, 2025) conducted a training on the use of the OGMS to manage research calls here in Freetown. We met in Bonn Germany in April,2025 during the DFG meeting. Nodumo was a friendly person who always gives the personal touch to CTA- SGCs relationship. I was personally shocked and devastated when I received news of her demise. May the her rest in peace

Sdu as I used to call her was a sister I chose for myself. They say friends are family you pick for yourself, thank you for picking me too. We fall in love at Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. She spoilt me so much and I used to babysit sit Philani when she was working late. When I got pregnant she loved me out of suicide and still loves my son. It's going to be really hard to do life without you Sdu, huge hugs to Philani as well as Gogo and Kulu. Go well Sdu, I will miss you terribly my sister.

In Loving Memory of Madam Nodumo Dhlamini It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that I write this tribute to Madam Nodumo Dhlamini — a leader, mentor, and source of constant inspiration. For the past 10 years, I have had the immense privilege of knowing and working alongside her. Madam Nodumo was not just a remarkable ICT Director; she was a force for good across the African education landscape. Her leadership style was unlike any other — quiet yet commanding, wise yet always approachable. You could always tell when she was part of a conference call. Regardless of age, background, or experience, her presence immediately elevated the tone of the discussion. There was always decorum, respect, and an unmistakable integrity whenever she was involved. Madam Nodumo personally inspired me to engage more deeply with educators across Africa, to listen, learn, and contribute. She believed in the transformative power of education and technology, and she carried that vision forward with grace, humility, and unwavering strength. Today, her loss is deeply felt. But her spirit, her wisdom, and her vision endure in all of us who had the honor of working with her. We are committed to continuing the work she championed and upholding the high standards she set. Thank you, Madam Nodumo, for everything. You will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.

FARE THEE WELL. NODUMO, with great shock have l received the news of your departure, which is unbelievable. Shocking because there was nothing to indicate that you would leave that soon. Am reminded of your soft yet assertive voice, your experience in programming and the light moments that made work enjoyable. Am also reminded on how we successfully planned together huge conferences/workshops with overwhelming numbers. You were a pleasant person to work with and to have as a friend. You have mentored many people, especially young women who are fond of you. you encouraged young women to keep going and focus for successful careers. You taught and encouraged them to pursue excellence and be outstanding. You were indeed a jewel to remember. For Philani, the values you instilled in him, including the fear of God, will carry him all along in your absence. It was nice knowing and working with you. Fare thee well my friend.

Nodumo Dhlamini, You know I am a strong woman — and yet, this time, I cannot find the strength to deal with your loss. I find myself weeping when I should be composed, and drifting into memories when I should be present. Our first encounter was about ten years ago. We met over work and have since continued to collaborate on several projects around improving higher education systems and beyond. Time has flown by so fast, and I didn't even realize: somewhere along the way, we became more than colleagues. • I didn't realize that when we called each other "sister," we were already living as sisters. • I didn't realize that when you found time in your impossibly busy schedule to celebrate with me birthdays or cheer on the children, we had become family. • I didn't realize that when we sat together over meals, talking about everything from career dreams to family joys, we had woven sisterhood between us. • I didn't realize that every time you answered my calls, responded to my messages with such care, we were deepening a bond beyond work. • I didn't realize that when you called me "Sister," it was no longer just a title — it was true. But now, I realize. And it breaks my heart to know that less than 24 hours after our last exchange, you crossed so suddenly from life to lifelessness. It terrifies me. • It terrifies me how fragile life can be. • It terrifies me that I can no longer reach you. • It terrifies me how quickly tears over your loss overwhelm me. • It terrifies me how your memory plays over and over in my mind, unbidden, unstoppable. Nodumo Dhlamini, I am so sorry. This is unfair. It does not feel right. Take care of yourself, my sister. Rest well. Rest well.

My tears can't stop flowing, my heart hurts so bad. This is unbelievable and the worst news this year. "Precie my daughter", are some of the words I will not hear from aunty Nodumo again. If we could buy life, I would buy aunty Nodumo's life again and again and again for her to live longer. She was just an amazing woman of value, full of life, love, patience, wisdom etc. I thank God for the time I spent with her, the long deep calls we had and the love I got from her. My family has lost a mother and grandma. May the Lord strengthen and comfort all of us as we mourn.

She has been an extraordinary professional and person, who has consistently demonstrated insight and an enduring commitment to African higher education. Colleagues at OBREAL are grieving losing her, as I am sure many are in the African higher education community and beyond. Colleagues at OBREAL who have worked with her most closely over the past decade, including but not limited to Elizabeth Colucci, Nicolas Patrici, Apiyo Okwiri, Marina Larrea, Kibrome Haile, Eloi Esposito, and also myself personally, have been sharing heartfelt stories of Nodumo over the past 48 hours since receiving the devastating news. While this letter is a collective expression of our love for her, please also expect that we will continue to share these memories with you in the coming weeks, months and years. Nodumo's genuine wisdom, thoughtfulness and calming presence has brought both balance and humility to our shared projects and endeavours. She was an extremely kind person, with a warming smile, who has shown unusual ability to lead through action, demeanor and commitment. • 26/04/2025

Haa... I don't even know where to begin. No words can truly capture the depth, the weight, the ocean of sadness I feel. When the news reached me, I secretly hoped it was just a cruel prank, or a misdiagnosis. But by nightfall, it became inevitable — I could no longer deny it. You were gone. One day I saw you — vibrant, smiling — and the next, you had left us. It took me a long time to find the strength to put my heart into words. Now, when I walk into work, when I pass by your office door — knowing you are no longer there — it feels surreal. It's sinking in, and the reality is heavy. Who will now greet me in the mornings with that warm, motherly smile? "Ab'na," you would call out, in your special way, "How are you doing?" "I'm doing quite well," I'd reply. "That's great. I'm okay," you would always say — those words, said with sincerity, every single time. "I'm okay..." — words that now echo in my heart, over and over again. You were more than a leader, more than a mentor. You were our pillar, our guide, our light. You urged us forward: "Take that step." You corrected us — but with grace, with class, with love. You never let go, even when we stumbled. You never broke your promises — no matter how long it took. Even when we forgot, you remembered. You fulfilled. You were the beating heart of our department. Now, without you, how do we find our rhythm again? You celebrated with us when we soared. You wept with us when we fell. You carried our burdens, lifted our dreams, nurtured our growth. You supported each one of us — personally, professionally, wholeheartedly. How do we move on, Ma? I love you. We love you. Thank you — truly, deeply — for everything. Thank you for every lesson, every smile, every sacrifice. Thank you for showing us what strength and love look like. Thank you for giving so much of yourself, even when no one was watching. I promise to honor your legacy: to work hard, to lead with compassion, to stay true to the path you paved for us. You and your family have touched countless lives. You are truly remarkable — and forever irreplaceable. The sadness floods me like a broken dam. The tears fall, unbidden, like a river that refuses to be silenced. The memories flash through my mind like a film on endless loop. The sound of your laughter dances in my ears, refusing to fade. "I'm okay," you always said... So today, with trembling lips and a broken heart, I say back to you: "I'm okay too, Ma..." Until we meet again. Until Jehovah's promise is fulfilled — Until you wake with a smile that will outshine the sunrise. 🌅 Rest, dear Ma. You fought the good fight. You have finished the race. You kept the faith. And now, a crown of life awaits you. Applause rises to the heavens for you. We will clap, we will cry, we will smile through our tears. Because you, Madam Nodumo Dhlamini, were — and forever will be — a Symphony of Grace. 🎵 A Legacy of Love. 🤍 A Light that will never be extinguished. 🕊️ With all my heart, Abena Corletey 🤍

"My Sister" as we called each other, I am surely going to miss your warm messages of encouragement. I remember meeting you for the first time in Cairo in 2017, and in no time we became good friends. Your intelligence, your ability to make everyone and everything around you comfortable, your objectivity, your honesty, your smile, your gentleness, your leadership alongside your total commitment to serving the AAU commanded the admiration and respect we all had for you. My sister you will be forever cherished and missed. May God reward you with his ever loving heavenly presence. So long My Sister!

A Light That Will Not Dim A Tribute By Professor Lilian I. Salami In Loving Memory of Ms. Nodumo Dhlamini The news of your sudden shocking passing pierced through us like a sharp, sudden wind. It is hard to grasp that such an amiable, radiant presence, so full of life, of vision, and of purpose, is no longer here. Ms. Nodumo Dhlamini was not only a colleague, was a force, builder of futures, quiet giant in the digital space who moved with humility, yet left bold prints behind. During governing board meetings she not only inspired with her intellect, but even more with her heart. She saw potential where others saw limits. She gave time, gave voice, gave light and never asked for applause. Even with compliments she only responded with a smile. Her legacy is woven into the fabric of African higher education. In every network she strengthened, empowered, in every system she improved. We the AAU family will remember her laughter, her leadership, her loyalty to the cause of knowledge and equity. She may have left our sight, But she has not left our story. Rest well, dear Nodumo. You gave so much. You gave it all. We will miss you. Prof. Lilian Salami Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin Former Vice President West Africa AAU Governing Board.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Madam Nodumo Dhlamini. I had the honour of meeting her in person twice — in 2014 in Rwanda and again in 2024 in Mauritius during the Africa Internet Summit (AIS). Beyond these physical meetings, we spoke often over the phone, sharing rich discussions about the Internet, ICT, and its development in Africa. Her humility, passion, and deep knowledge always stood out and left a lasting impression. Madam Dhlamini's unwavering commitment to higher education and technology advancement across the continent was truly inspiring. Her sudden departure is a great loss to us all, but her legacy of excellence and service will continue to live on. I extend my deepest condolences to her family, colleagues, and all who knew her. Madam Nodomo was a lovable, kind and warm-hearted professional in IT Administration. From the very first time I met and engaged with he,r when she and Ruth visited Sierra Leone to gauge the status of our newly formed Council and our readiness to take part in the SGC2 Call, she struck me as someone who wished the best for Councils with an endearing personality. Her soft and deliberate contributions to the discussions were quite encouraging and greatly inspired us to resolve to do all that was necessary to participate in that Call. Together with Ruth, they gave us the confidence and indeed direction to finalize our Concept Note and other documentations, which led to the award of five (5) projects under that Call. These projects are ongoing and have been showcased in several engagements, both within the SGCI activities, as well as other technical meetings on STI locally and internationally. I met her again in Zambia at a training event in Livingstone. I further experienced her technical depth in IT and her almost motherly attitude in guiding the participants through our paces in navigating portals and other IT-related activities during that Workshop. Nodumo's last visit to Sierra Leone was to co-facilitate a very interactive and successful workshop on Research Excellence, Research Quality (RQ) and Research Quality Plus (RQ+) with Dr Frederick Amah. She expressed joy and satisfaction at the engaging nature of the participants at the workshop and encouraged us to reach out to them if the need arose. Sadly, my last physical engagement with her was in March when I paid a courtesy call at the AAU Secretariat in Accra, while attending the Conference and AGM of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, and had the opportunity to hold talks with her and Ruth. I was humbled by her commendation of the work NSTIC-SL was doing, given our relative age in the comity of SGCs. My last contact with her was about a fortnight ago when plans were being worked out for NSTIC's participation in the GMS peer-to-peer workshop to be held in Namibia, now billed for May this year. I never could have imagined that would be the last time we would talk. Nodomu, NSTIC-SL and I personally will miss your gentle and highly effective and inspiring approach to issues and the confidence you demonstrated in our Council. It is a huge loss to us all, and you have left an indelible mark on our Council. We join other members of the SGC family in expressing our profound sympathy for their loss and pray that her family will be comforted by God's consolation. May her gentle and kind soul rest in perfect peace. From the Chairman, Coordinator and members of the NSTIC-Sl.

Condolence Message from the Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities (AAU) It is with profound sadness that we at the Association of African Universities mourn the passing of our esteemed Director of ICT and Knowledge Management. If it were within our power, we would have kept her from the surgery and shielded her from the pain. Yet we know that the deep internal struggles she faced would not have allowed her to turn away. We have lost a rare gem — a trusted colleague, a compassionate mother to many, a voice of wisdom within AAU, and a consummate professional who gave her utmost to the advancement of our mission. Her passing at the young age of 59 is a monumental loss not only to AAU but to the entire African continent. She was remarkably innovative, deeply committed, and had a unique ability to mentor and inspire young people within our association. She nurtured them with a mother's heart, always believing in their potential and encouraging them toward excellence. Though her absence leaves a void that cannot easily be filled, we are determined to honour her legacy by continuing the work she so passionately championed — with commitment, focus, and excellence. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire AAU community. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Madam Nodumo was a friend and colleague. We worked together on my projects and other assignments. Her integrity, gentle disposition, professional commitment, and hard work made her a likeable personality. I did not expect her sudden demise at this time. While we bow in total submission to the perfect will of God, her passing is an eloquent reminder that death is a necessary end, it will come when it will come, according to William Shakespeare. May her soul rest in the bosom of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Today, I honor the life of my beloved Nodumo Dhlamini, a shining light in my world. As a sister, you were more than just family – you were a dear friend, confidante, and guiding force in my life. Your heart overflowed with love, kindness, and compassion. Your listening ear and comforting words were a source of strength and solace. I felt seen, heard, and loved by you. The Bible says, "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). You lived these words, always being there for me through life's joys and challenges. Your love, care, and support meant everything to me. You showed me the true meaning of selflessness, kindness, and love. As one of the shortlisted trainers, I was nervous about speaking to a large audience for the first time. However, Ms. Nodumo's words of encouragement played a significant role in boosting my confidence and preparing me for the stage. What struck me most was her kindness after the presentation, when she took the time to call and share uplifting words. As a great mentor, Ms. Nodumo's soothing and tender voice was a balm to my nerves, as she listened attentively and offered just the right amount of encouragement. Your transition is a profound loss to Africa, but a beautiful gain for heaven. Rest in peace, ma'am.

Madam; as you were fondly called, You didn't look like the dying type. Even now, I find myself asking the rhetorical question: "Is that how people die?" It's a question without answers. Because nothing could have prepared us for this. This is the second personal loss I have truly felt in my life and it cuts deep. It's hard to say goodbye. But we are consoled by the fact that you touched every life that crossed your path with your warmth, positivity, and your kindness. You left a piece of yourself in each of us. I'll hold on to the values you shared and promise to do my best to keep making you proud as you rest with the Angels. May God console your family, the AAU, and the entire Higher Education community. *Joan Akua Iyoha, HR Officer, Association of African Universities.

Life, like a mist, appears for just a day,Then disappears tomorrow. All that we are can quickly fade away,Replaced with tears and sorrow. If a man should die, can he live again?Hear the promise God has made: He will call; The dead will answer. They will live at his command. For he will have a longing for the work of his own hand.So have faith, and do not wonder,For our God can make us stand. And we will live forever,As the work of his own hand. My sympathy to entire AAU family and I pray Jehovah God comfort us all.

Dr. Nodumo is a warm. humble. smart and kind person. I know her from a online meeting in Nov. 2022. When I joined AAU this Feb. I work with her in person and lean a lot from her, become friends also. It's a great loss for me and I felt so sad. BLess her and her family, my dear colleague and sister. We will remember your great job for AAU and higher education. ------Prof Peng Yi Higher Education Expert of Association of African Universities & China Association of Higher Education

I am at a loss for words at the loss of this amazing friend, colleague and human being! I still can't believe it. She was a thorough professional, with a clear sense of direction. She led by example. But more than that, she was a great human being. She offered support to those around her, trying to find best solutions and always helpful. Nodumo will be missed a lot. It is a great loss to the edu and edu-tech community. But a greater loss to her friends. You will be missed! Rest in Peace! Faisal Wahab The Learning Hut - Pakistan

It was a blessing to meet, know and work with Madam Nodumo Dhlamini. I have such beautiful memories of our insightful and supportive conversations. What a beautiful soul! What a beautiful and unforgettable human being, full of love and compassion. A great ambassador for the AAU! May her family and the AAU find comfort in the memory of her many good works which will be with us forever. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.
