Governance Structure
The principal organs of the Association include the following:

The General Conference
The General Conference, comprising representatives of members, associate members and observers is the supreme authority of the Association and is responsible for determining the general policies of the Association. It is held once every four years.

The Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents (COREVIP)
The Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents (COREVIP) is a permanent organ of the Association responsible for debating and taking concerted action to reinforce inter-university co-operation. It comprises the Executive Heads of member and Associate member institutions. COREVIP is held once every two years.

The Governing Board
The Governing Board comprises the President of the Association, three Vice-Presidents, 11 other executive heads of member institutions elected at the General Conference to represent the five sub-regions of Africa and the Secretary-General. The Board implements the decisions of the General Conference. The Governance Board meets annually.

The Secretariat
The Secretariat is the Permanent Executive Organ of the Association and operates under the general supervision of the Governance Board and the direction of the Secretary-General.
