From vision to infrastructure: why hosting the PAQAA interim technical unit positions Africa for a quality revolution
March 27, 2026Accra, Ghana | Friday, March 27, 2026 – The Climate Change and Health Innovation Hub for West and Central Africa (CHINNOVA) is pleased to announce the launch of its Second Call for Proposals (CFP2), to support collaborative research projects addressing the growing impact of climate change on health systems.
The call invites universities, accredited research institutes, non-governmental organisations with a research mandate to submit proposals for innovative and interdisciplinary research under the Sub-Grants for Collaborative Research and Innovation Projects (2026–2028).
With the USD 1,000,000 funding, CHINNOVA will support a portfolio of high-quality research projects aimed at strengthening climate-resilient health systems, improving access to climate and health data, and informing policy and practice.
Selected projects may receive up to USD 200,000 over a period of 24 months. Funding decisions will be guided by the quality, relevance, and potential impact of submitted proposals, as well as the need to ensure a balanced and diverse portfolio of projects.
The call prioritises research in key areas including health systems preparedness and response, climate and health data systems and early warning mechanisms, climate-sensitive diseases and health outcomes, gender equality and inclusion, community engagement and risk communication, and policy and institutional innovation.
Proposals submitted under this call are expected to demonstrate interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration, strong contextual relevance, and clear pathways to impact. Applicants should articulate how their research will strengthen health systems, inform policy, and respond to priority climate-related health challenges, while integrating gender equality and inclusion considerations.
Applications are open to institutions based in eligible countries across West and Central Africa, namely Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
