The major events of the Association include the General Conference, the Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents (COREVIP), Executive Board Meetings and African University Day.

(1)  The General Conference
The General Conference comprising representatives of members, associate members and observers admitted by the Executive Board, is the supreme authority of the Association and is responsible for determining the general policies of the Association. The General Conference meets once every four years. General Conferences are hosted by member institutions.

The Conference of Rectors, Vice Chancellors and Presidents (COREVIP) is a permanent organ of the Association responsible for debating and taking concerted action to reinforce inter-university co-operation. It comprises the executive heads of members and associate members. The COREVIP meets once every two years.

(3)  Executive Board Meetings
The Executive Board comprises the President of the Association, three Vice-Presidents, 11 other executive heads of member institutions, and the Secretary-General. The Board implements the decisions of the General Conference. The Board meets at least once a year to review activities of the Secretariat.

(4)  African University Day
African University Day was instituted following a decision by the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU) in 1994. The objective of this annual event is to sensitize people on the role of the African university in the economic and social development of Africa. The Day is celebrated on 12th November of each year around a topic of interest to higher education.
